Controls & Automation · Service
PLC programming, engineered to keep your line running.
PLC, HMI, inverter and control-system fault-finding, upgrades and commissioning across a range of industrial equipment — for industrial and commercial sites in the North West.
What we do
The service in plain English.
Programmable Logic Controllers sit at the heart of every modern production line, batching plant, conveyor system and machine cell. When they fail, so does throughput — and when they need to change, so does everything downstream. Lutrom's controls engineers support PLC, HMI, inverter and control-system fault-finding, upgrades and commissioning across a range of industrial equipment for factories, warehouses and commercial sites across the North West. Every job starts with a survey (either on-site or remote), a clear scope, and a fixed-price or transparent hourly quote. No black boxes and no vendor lock-in — you'll get the source code where we've written it, well-commented, and full change documentation on handover.
What's included
Every job covers the following.
- PLC and HMI fault-finding on live production equipment
- Software upgrades, retrofits and migrations planned around your uptime windows
- Adding new inputs, sensors, safety interlocks or communication paths to existing systems
- HMI and SCADA screen work — tag mapping, alarm handling and data logging
- Safety-system configuration to EN ISO 13849-1 / EN 62061 categories
- Industrial network troubleshooting and setup
- Remote-access packages so we can be back in your controls in minutes if a fault recurs
- Version control, source-code handover and change logs where applicable — you own the IP

Our approach
Survey. Quote. Deliver. Sign off.
01
Survey
On-site or remote review of the existing code, HMI, network layout and hardware. We ask questions, read the panel schematic and, where safe, put the PLC in program mode.
02
Fixed-scope quote
Written proposal with milestones, hourly rate for open-ended work, and a clear cut-over plan for anything that impacts production.
03
Develop & bench-test
Code developed in our workshop against a bench replica or simulator where possible — so first energisation on-site is boring, not eventful.
04
Commission & hand over
On-site commissioning during your agreed window, full documentation, code archive and — critically — an engineer's mobile number for the following weeks.
How we price this work
No surprise invoices.
PLC work varies enormously in complexity, so we don't publish fixed prices. Small changes and fault-finding are quoted on an hourly-rate basis with a clear estimate up front. New builds and migrations are quoted as a fixed-price scope with milestone billing. For clients on a rolling maintenance contract, PLC engineering time is drawn against the agreed hourly bank. Every quote is written by the engineer who'll do the work — not a sales team.
Coverage
Where we deliver this service.
We deliver plc programming across the North West of England — from our Northwich base. Same-day dispatch for callouts and scheduled visits for planned work.
Service FAQ
What clients ask before they call.
What kind of PLC and control systems do you work on?
We support PLC, HMI, inverter and control-system fault-finding, upgrades and commissioning across a range of industrial equipment. When you enquire, tell us the manufacturer and model of the PLC/HMI/drives on site and we'll confirm quickly whether it's a good fit for our team — if it isn't, we'll say so up front rather than take on work outside our depth.
Can you take over a project someone else started?
Yes — this is one of the most common reasons we get called. We'll survey the existing code, catalogue the tags, confirm the I/O map and give you a written state-of-the-code report before quoting the completion or fix. In some cases the sensible route is a rewrite rather than a rescue; we'll tell you plainly which it is.
Do you provide the source code and documentation?
Where we write new code, yes — you own everything we produce: source code, backups, tag databases, HMI project files, network diagrams and a written commissioning report. Vendor lock-in is a business model we don't subscribe to.
Can you support us remotely after commissioning?
Yes. We can install a secure remote-access router so an engineer can VPN into the controls system and fault-find in minutes rather than hours. Remote support is available as a call-off or as part of a rolling maintenance contract.
How quickly can you get to a line-down PLC fault?
For clients on a call-out contract, we aim to be dialled in remotely within 30 minutes and on-site within 2 hours across most of the North West. Without a contract, response is best-effort based on current engineer availability — call us and we'll tell you honestly what the wait looks like.
Do you handle functional safety and safety-rated systems?
Yes. We assess and configure safety-rated systems to the appropriate PL/SIL under EN ISO 13849-1 or EN 62061. Every safety change is validated, documented and — where you require it — third-party verified before sign-off.
