Industrial welding and fabrication for the jobs that need doing properly.
MIG, TIG and stick welding plus general steel fabrication — from single brackets to full structural frames, guarding, hoppers, chutes and machinery sub-assemblies.
What we do
The service in plain English.
Welding and fabrication is the physical work that turns an engineering drawing into a real thing. Lutrom's fabrication workshop supports the rest of the business — building the frames, guarding, hoppers, chutes and sub-assemblies for our own bespoke machinery — and takes on standalone fabrication work for industrial and commercial clients who need something built properly, once, to a drawing. Our welders are qualified across MIG (gas metal-arc), TIG (gas tungsten-arc) and stick (SMAW), working in mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium. Every piece of fabrication starts with a drawing — either from your engineering team, from ours, or reverse-engineered from a sample — and every fabricated item is dimensionally checked against that drawing before it leaves the workshop. For jobs where welding to a specific standard is required (ASME IX, EN ISO 15614 or client-specific WPS), we can weld to and document against a specified procedure. For general fabrication, we work to good industrial practice, agreed drawing tolerances and a written itemised job sheet so you know exactly what you're paying for.
What's included
Every job covers the following.
- MIG welding — production runs, general fabrication, structural steel
- TIG welding — stainless food-grade work, aluminium, thin-gauge precision
- Stick welding (SMAW) — heavy industrial, on-site repair work, structural
- Sheet-metal fabrication — brackets, panels, guards, enclosures
- Structural fabrication — frames, mezzanines, machinery support structures, gantries
- Hoppers, chutes, feed systems and material-handling fabrications
- Machine guarding — mesh cages, interlocked doors, laser-cut protective panels
- On-site welding and repair work under permit-to-work
- Finishing — hot-zinc spray, wet paint, powder coat (via approved partners)

Our approach
Survey. Quote. Deliver. Sign off.
01
Drawing or sample
We start from an engineering drawing (yours or ours) or from a physical sample we reverse-engineer. Everything is dimensioned and tolerance-noted before we cut steel.
02
Written quote
Fixed-price quote with materials, welding, finishing and delivery itemised. Where the client is supplying materials, we quote labour-only and inspect the delivered stock on receipt.
03
Fabricate & QA
Cut, weld, grind, drill, finish. Every fabricated piece is dimensionally checked and — where the drawing calls for it — third-party inspected before it leaves the workshop.
04
Deliver & install
Delivered to site by our own transport where practical, and installed by our own team where the job needs it. Everything with the paperwork you asked for on quote.
How we price this work
No surprise invoices.
Fabrication is priced by job, not by hour. Small brackets and guards are fixed-price from a drawing. Structural work is quoted after we've priced the steel, the consumables and the labour hours to a written breakdown. On-site welding and repair is priced with a callout fee plus hourly rate and materials. Every quote itemises materials, welding, finishing and any allowances for permit-to-work or out-of-hours access so there are no surprises.
Coverage
Where we deliver this service.
We deliver industrial welding and fabrication for the jobs that need doing properly across the North West of England — from our Northwich base. Same-day dispatch for callouts and scheduled visits for planned work.
Service FAQ
What clients ask before they call.
Can you weld to a specific procedure or code?
Yes, where it's needed. For pressure-vessel or coded welding, we can weld to a client-supplied or Lutrom-produced Welding Procedure Specification (WPS), and document welder qualification against EN ISO 9606 / ASME IX. For general industrial fabrication we work to agreed drawing tolerances and good industrial practice — which is what most jobs actually require.
Do you fabricate to food-grade / hygienic standards?
Yes, in stainless. Food and hygiene work is TIG welded (usually 316L) with polished welds where required. Hygienic radii, drainage falls and cleanable finishes are designed in from the drawing stage. Where the environment requires it, we can produce weld maps and inspection records.
Can you come on-site to weld?
Yes. On-site welding is booked in with a permit-to-work under your site's regime — hot-work permit, fire watch, isolation of nearby combustibles, etc. Common jobs are structural repairs, machine-frame modifications and pipework rework.
Can you fabricate from a sample rather than a drawing?
Yes — reverse-engineering from a physical sample is one of the things a decent fabrication workshop should be able to do. We measure the sample, produce a drawing for your sign-off, then quote against the drawing. That way both sides know exactly what we're fabricating before any steel gets cut.
Do you supply the steel or work off client-supplied stock?
Both. We supply steel from our regular merchants (which is usually the cost-effective route on smaller jobs). For larger structural jobs, or where the client has a specific grade or certification requirement, we're happy to work off client-supplied stock — we inspect on receipt and note anything that doesn't match the delivery ticket.
Do you do finishing as well as fabrication?
Yes. Hot-zinc spray, wet paint and powder coat are all available through our approved finishing partners. We manage the finishing as part of the fabrication package so the client gets one delivery, one invoice and one point of accountability if there's a problem.
Got a project, a survey or a compliance deadline?
Talk to a working engineer — not a call centre. Every enquiry gets a same-day human reply.
